Day 6: Galápagos Unfortunately, this day ended up being very bad for myself. I woke up around 2am with a fever, cold sweats, and severe body aches. As the morning dawned, I still felt the same but our time on Isabella Island had come to an end. We left very early, skipping breakfast, and took the 2 & 1/2 hour speed boat ride back to Santa Cruz Island. During the boat ride I began to feel better. Once we arrived to the island around 8am, we headed back to Hotel Ninfa but check in was not until 2pm. We left our luggage at the hotel and began a 20 minute walk to the Charles Darwin Research Center. This is where my bad day really begun. The group and I were just about to enter and explore the Lonesome George Exhibit. Once we entered, I began to feel very weak, nauseous and dizzy and eventually I almost passed out. I left the exhibit and sat outside for some fresh air.

I started to regain my strength and reunited with the group outside of the tortoise breeding chambers. Just as I gained my strength, my health declined once again and this time it got worse. My body was extremely weak again, my fever and cold sweats returned and this time I couldn’t keep any food or water in my body. Due to my health issues, Johnathan and Tait agreed it was best to call a taxi and bring me to the hospital. After waiting an hour to see the doctor, it was determined that I had a bad reaction to the malaria medication that I had taken the night before and I was dehydrated. The doctor had me remain at the hospital and receive an IV of fluids for an hour. Once I finished up at the hospital, I once again reunited with the group for lunch. After, we walked to the pharmacy, picked up my prescription and headed back to the hotel. Greg and I walked to the supermarket and picked up some snacks. Just as I was beginning to feel better, my health took a turn and I couldn’t keep any water or food in my body again. Since I wasn’t feeling good once again, I decided it was best to skip dinner and the presentation and go directly to bed.
